Senior Sub Editor

MediaNama (www.medianama.com) is looking to hire a Senior Sub Editor with journalism and/or sub-editing experience to work with our existing team of technology policy reporters. This is a specialised field, so please do read the post below, before applying, and please follow the application process detailed below.

Key Responsibilities

  • Editing and subbing: 
    • Writing, rewriting, editing and proofreading text, and take overall responsibility for maintaining high standards of subbing in the team.
    • Follow our sub-editing checklist and ensure that all aspects in that checklist are addressed adequately.
    • Checking facts to ensure stories are accurate, adhere to copyright laws and are not libellous.
    • Edit copy for varying lengths and adhere to various platform-specific guidelines.
    • Ensure that basic standards of SEO and tagging are followed for enhancing discovery
    • Ensure that the output adheres to the house style and standards of our publication
  • Managing:
    • Deputise for the editor and, allocate  work to the team, check progress, and ensure the professional contribution of staff and the quality of output.
    • Evaluate story pitches
    • Guide the team in terms of improving quality of output and provide value for MediaNama readers.
    • Spotting and recommending high impact stories to the editorial team
    • Documenting performance of individual team members

What we’re looking for

  1. Location: Delhi. We are currently working with a hybrid WFM model, but in a post-COVID19 scenario, you will be expected to work with our team in our office in (North) Delhi.
  2. Experience:
    • 3-4 years of experience in a daily newsroom as a sub editor.
    • Preference will be given to candidates with online work experience.
    • Some experience in reporting on technology. Experience in understanding legal, policy and/or financial documents and filings is preferred.
  3. Interests:
    • Interested in policy developments related to Internet access, commerce, communications, social media, telecom, digital payments, e-governance, global Internet governance etc. You need to be passionate about this domain and how it impacts the world.
    • Should be following social, political, economic issues of the country on a day today basis.
  4. Skills
    • A high standard of Editorial judgment and writing ability based on substantial experience of editing news stories and features.
    • A team-player with exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflicts, and willingness to get the job done.
    • Excellent project and time management skills, ability to multi-task and ensure tasks are completed on time
    • Excellent command of the English language.
    • You need to have basic working knowledge of HTML, and familiarity with WordPress.
    • Comfort with working cross-platform, whether Slack, WhatsApp and/or phone calls.
  5. Setup: Your own laptop with a functional webcam, audio setup, and a working Internet connection with a backup
  6. Comfort with ambiguity: the news industry is dynamic, you need to be able to take decisions and iterate quickly. We are currently working with a hybrid WFH model, so expect ambiguity.

Junior Correspondent

MediaNama (www.medianama.com) is looking to hire journalists to work with our existing team reporting on Tech Policy. This is a specialised field, so please do read the post below.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track and report
    • Current news and developments in technology policy and tech law in India, key developments in the rest of the world.
    • Technology policy developments at the UN, EU and various global Internet policy forums.
    • Parliament, Supreme Court and various High Courts in India for policy developments
  • Analyse: judgments, data, regulatory filings and other information and present it in a concise manner
  • Organise: Prepare questions, help identify speakers, live tweet and/or report on MediaNama events, apart from taking on additional responsibilities. Prepare reports based on MediaNama events. You may also be required to host or moderate MediaNama events.

Events Manager 

MediaNama (www.medianama.com) is looking to hire a digital and offline events manager to work with our team. We work in a specialised domain, so please do read the post below.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As an events manager you’ll find yourself working closely with all our teams – Editorial, Sales and Marketing, and Systems. You will learn to prioritise work for events, develop a deep understanding of events work (especially digital), learn new software, coordinate with marketing, editorial and systems for end-to-end event management for creation, work with sponsors, and develop strategies for efficient and timely execution of best-in-class events.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Manage:
    • All activities related to the event, across editorial, marketing, systems and sales, with strong follow up to ensure on-time execution of all tasks.
    • All registrations and attendee coordination using Google Forms, Gmail and Mailchimp, including invitations, confirmations, and reminders
    • Setting up and running events using Zoom, Google Meet or equivalent
    • All engagement with speakers and sponsors, including scheduling of calls in a timely manner.
    • All Partners for promotions of event
    • Post event coordination with sponsors and partners
  • Create:
    • Operations, sales and marketing systems for events, in addition to existing systems
    • Marketing collateral for promotion of events, in coordination with the marketing team
  • Analyse:
    • MediaNama’s audience and client base to optimise our event programming
    • Event data to aid with increasing efficiency and improving operations
  • Learn
    • New platforms, new skills, new software to improve delivery of events

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience:
    • 2-3 years of event coordination and management experience. Online work experience is mandatory.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient knowledge of Google Tools, including Google Forms, Calendar, Gmail, Google Drive, Documents, Spreadsheets, Slides
    • Proficient knowledge of video conferencing software including Zoom and Google Meet
    • Proficient knowledge of live video streaming platforms like Restream
    • Working knowledge of email marketing software, especially Mailchimp
    • Working knowledge of graphic design platforms like Canva

HR Manager 

MediaNama (www.medianama.com) is looking to hire an HR Manager (a generalist) to manage our team of journalists and operational employees. We work in a specialised domain, so please do read the post below.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a recruiter and HR Manager you will have to hire and manage a team in Delhi, and you’ll find yourself working closely with all our teams: Editorial, Sales and Marketing, and Systems. You will learn to improve sourcing of candidates, induct candidates remotely, and manage in-office as well as remote teams, apart from developing systems and processes for ensuring candidate growth and motivation for performance.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Sourcing and recruitment:
    • Sourcing candidates using innovative and creative mechanisms, via agencies, direct referrals, research, job platforms, relationships, candidate database etc.
    • Managing recruitment of the candidate and developing processes for the same.
    • Managing employee induction, setting expectations and alignment with company vision, mission and values.
  • Team Management
    • Accurate and timely employee communications
    • Maintaining HR procedures in compliance with regulations
    • Developing and maintaining key HR metrics
    • Ensuring employee requests and grievances are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Set up/re-evaluate role KPIs and KRAs, and develop and monitor Key HR Metrics
    • Improving employee retention and ensuring a meaningful work environment
    • Handling leaves and paysheets
    • Managing employee exits in an amicable manner.
    • Set up effective training and development programs
  • Working with the leadership team to create/improve:

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience
    • 3-5 years of HR experience. Experience with Payroll and team management would be preferred.
    • A Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Human Resources, Psychology or Behavioral Sciences
